Birthright (Birthright #1)

Birthright (Birthright #1) - A.P. Jensen This book is really tough to get a handle on at first. It jumps all around and it is difficult to really get a read on what is happening.

The story takes it's time unfolding, slowly sharing it's secrets. I really liked Jordan and wanted to love her story. There are just so many things that were either unanswered or took too long to reveal.

The fact that most of the book is from her POV limits how much the reader knows. We only get things as she does, which isn't quick. The world building was much slower than I would have liked.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Bodine Boling, who is excellent. Her compelling narration keeps you listening, even when the book feels slow. She has a steady swift read that keeps things moving. I really enjoyed her voices and the distinctions between the charters. She has a soothing yet youthful tone. I would love to find more of her reads.

While the story was difficult to get a grasp on, I was pulled in and curious to see what happens next. Perhaps the next book will answer more questions. This book is a very intriguing concept and Jordan is a compelling character.

Curvy Girl Blues

Curvy Girl Blues - Michelle Fawkes A nice story

This is a sweet little curvy girl read. More story than smexy action. I thought it was more of a beginning to a romance. It is a little soon for love of the life and proposals. I would definitely like to read more from Ms Fawkes. She has great potential for storytelling.

Reaper's Property

Reaper's Property - Joanna Wylde In the past I have mentioned my dislike of this genre. Bikers are not generally my thing. However, this book is awesome. I loved almost every second of it!

Marie is a funny sassy gal. I loved her gumption, most of the time. She does seem to have blinders on when it comes to her brother. It is a bit of a flaw. But she makes the best of a bad situation.

Horse is yummy and dominant. He is a bad@$$ biker. But he has a heart hidden in that big body. When he falls he falls hard. There are a few times when I has issue with his behavior, mostly biker lifestyle stuff.

At first I thought this book was all going to be from Marie's POV, happily there are many points midway through where Horse takes over the narrative. These moments are key to keeping him likeable and getting his side of the romance. Without that insight, I probably would not have liked this as much.

Another great device is the non-linear story telling for the first half. I love the back and forth between the present situation and the flashbacks to the time leading up to that point. It adds excitement to the story. It was engaging and dynamic from beginning to end.

The smexy scenes are super hot!! You may singe you ears listening!! Oh lordy, give me an alpha guy any day of the week!!! And Horse does a little bit of naughty take that makes me melt!!

But wait, it is more than just a hot steamy read. There are several layers to this story and a few times you will be clutching a Kleenex. I enjoyed the development of the lead characters and the supporting cast. Plenty of brilliantly crafted bad boys and some seriously spunky gals! You will laugh, cry, swoon and have your heart ripped out a tiny bit.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stella Bloom, who is terrific. I loved her yummy read and the emotion she put into the voices. She has a swift pace that fits the story and keeps it moving right along. I love her energy and will definitely be looking for more of her reads.

I generally do not like MC reads because the biker lifestyle tends to play loose with monogamy. I hate it when a character hooks up with somebody else in a romance. Thankfully that is light here. For the most part this really is a romance, gritty but with real feelings developed over time. This is also one of the first MC reads that has taken the time to really explain points of the lifestyle. While there are still things I dislike, I was so enamored with the storytelling that they almost didn't matter. I am definitely looking for more of this series and Ms Wylde.

Yucatan Dead

Yucatan Dead - D. V. Berkom The most recent book in the series takes Kate back to the beginning. Finally we get a bit of resolution on events in Mexico. Not everything, but plenty of things are brought to a head.

It is mostly from Kate's POV, which is interesting and engaging, but limited. I do like her spunky attitude. There are intriguing twists and turns, plus the added supernatural elements. She has become very endearing over the series. She definitely has bad luck haunting her.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Melissa Moran, she does a terrific read. She does a great job with all the accents and voices. She has a very mater of fact tone that fits Kate to a "T". That is key because the whole narrative is from her POV. She keeps the voices consistent and distinct through the series. A great pace keeps things moving along at a steady clip. She has terrific energy in her read that adds to the action scenes. I will definitely be looking for more of her work.

I am eager to see what happens next in the series. I really hope we get to see more of her friends she has met along the way. Would love to see Henry, Sam, Harv and the other allies has has connected with.

Amethyst Moon

Amethyst Moon - Ann Mayburn This book has a great story but there is a lot of angst. Noah is in a tough place trying to get a feel for his place in a new world. This book is an MMM, which is not generally my thing.

Still great read with wonderful story telling. I was hoping for more on the mysterious bad shaman. That bit of the series seems to be dragging. I would love more detail and a resolution to that problem soon.

Still a great series that packs loads of story into an itty bitty space.

Onyx Moon

Onyx Moon - Ann Mayburn This is another great book in the series, even with it being MM. I was enthralled. There is so much story packed into this little read. I wish it were longer because it was a delight to read.

There is a yummy smexy scene that will scorch your kindle. Love it when they go all Alpha. Sigh

I have enjoyed every bit of this series and really would love seeing it expanded into full books.

Loved the depth of feelings on this book.

Turquoise Moon

Turquoise Moon - Ann Mayburn Wow!! I was hoping this would be Jude and Ben finding their third!!! What a great story. Theses books may be compact but the world and storytelling are tight!!! I was hooked from the start when we were getting Kara's POV.

Love the mixed narrative giving us a bit of all three. It makes for a more engaging story.

Of course there is all sorts of yummy smexy scenes. YA just can't get enough of that!

I would love to see this book and the last one expanded. The story is just so compelling you want to savor it longer!

Emerald Moon

Emerald Moon - Ann Mayburn What a great story! I am not much of an MM reader, unless it is in a series. Loved reading about Ben and more about his past. There is such a wealth of feeling in the backstory for Ben and Jude. It is a delight reading about them and then the smexy date happens.

I loved the mixed narrative, really helps having both sides of the story. Another winner in the series and the 1NightStand collection!

Amber Moon

Amber Moon - Ann Mayburn This is a yummy quick read. I love the 1NightStand collection because they are compact well crafted stories. This is a uber hot Menage, FFM, good lord once they start they never stop!

I don't read a lot of FF, not typically my thing. This is super sexy though and Ms Mayburn draws you into the characters from the start, very clever mixed narrative gives you everybody's POV. It rally helps move the story along.

Loved it and can not wait to read more!

Dead of Winter

Dead of Winter - D. V. Berkom Kate is hiding out in Alaska. Of course she will stumble upon a murder, that is her luck. She is smart enough to look for help and hooks up with dishy detective Sam. I am not going to classify it as a romance, down and dirty time on the sheets does not equal love. I do see great potential for them in the future.

The story is engaging and connects with the first book. I am anticipating this will be a thread through this series. Kate hoping from location to location running from the bad guys. I can deal with that, it has huge potential. I do wish the book were longer.

Kate is as always spunky and sweet at the same time. She is getting smarter about hiding out and it will be interesting to see how thing progress.

Bad Spirits

Bad Spirits - D.V. Berkom I do not know how these books went as a serial, they are very quick snippets of the story. IT would have driven me crazy getting them piece mail. Thank goodness they are together here, a much better option.

I like spunky Kate. She has an attitude that keeps her dynamic, even when she can be a very naive character. She is on the run from her drug dealer boyfriend, well ex. She comes into a lot of trouble along the way in Mexico. Seems the girl just can't catch a break, but then she follows her instincts and survives.

There are some great moments in the story, but it feels rushed. I would love to see this expanded. The story could use more detail and would be great if it were longer. We end at a kind of non-ending. Things are left unresolved and you need to wait for the next book in the series to see what happens.

Cruising for Death: A Kate Jones Thriller

Cruising for Death: A Kate Jones Thriller - D V Berkom Wow, what a great read!! This book gives you so much more than the others in the series. A simple cruise takes a serious turn for the worse. Boy does that girl find trouble.

Kate and Cole are still together, and seem to be solid. I was really happy with that part of the story. It is about time she found a good man to stay by her side. It isn't about the romance, but it is a nice smidgen of the story.

This book is filled with action and not everyone ends up alive at the end of the tale. Every time you think things are working out, bang something else goes awry. Typical for unlucky Kate.

The whole book is from her POV, it would have been nice to have another perspective. You never know what others are thinking until they tell her. It adds to the suspense, but things are very narrow without knowing what is going on.

We get more of the Anaya story-line, finally getting to what is going on with the Mexico fiasco. There were some unexpected twists there too.

There are times when the story gets jumpy and I had to figure out what was happening. The being knocked out or drugged incidents took a toll at times.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Melissa Moran, who does a great job. She has great energy that moves the story along snagging you up in the action! The accents are great and stay consistent. You never wonder who is speaking. I really enjoy her in the series and hope she stays with the series. I would love to find more of her reads.

Death Rites (Kate Jones Thriller #7)
This is the best book of the series so far!! We get to see more of Kate and what makes her who she is up to this point. I really loved seeing her with her friends and hearing a bit more of her past.

The other reason this book is great is that the trouble she runs across isn't strictly Salazar related. It was a refreshing turn. The girl can find trouble anywhere!!

The story was more involved and detailed than others in the series. I did not see the twist coming and was more than a touch shocked! Kudos on that.

I was hoping for more Sam, but I have faith he will pop up again in the series!

Touring for Death (Kate Jones Thriller, #8)
This book picks up the series with Kate in yet another location. She is still hiding out and has come across more trouble, unconnected to Salazar. She has a real penchant for finding chaos!

I have really come to like Kate over the series. She has gumption and is pretty clever in her escapes. Sure she has a few dumb girl moments, but as a whole she is learning. I really like that through it all she still manages to stay sweet.

The story moves along swiftly and is again rather short. This time around we get another love interest in Sheriff Cole. I do wish we could have spent longer on that relationship. It has huge potential and a very interesting dynamic with his kids.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with the rest of the series. It would be nice to see the Mexico fiasco have a clear ending.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Melissa Moran, who does a great job with all the accents and voices. She has a very mater of fact tone that fits Kate to a "T".
