This is the first book in a series, I was intrigued by the concept and thought why not. I really wanted to read book six but have a policy about reading series in order. The base story is good but seems to get lost a bit at times.The author does a great job at creating a world but muddles things up with too much sex. Yeah, I know, I usually rave about the steamy stuff. This go around there was just too much and at ridiculous times! Like let's stop this rescue and have sex...um no, escape, get safe, then steam things up.
Amelia was mostly like able but really repressed. She also had a history of abuse that is expounded upon in cringeworthy detail. It definitely put you into the mindset of a rape victim and allowed you to understand how their mind might process things. But it was really uncomfortable, especially in a naughty book that should be making me feel happy.
The BDSM was a but rougher than I usually prefer. More pain than I like but still interesting.
In the end I still want to read more of the series. I can only hope the stories become stronger. But they must or else there would not be so many books. Right?
